Long Stratton FC Wins Club Competition

On 21st December, we met with Long Stratton FC, the winners of our 2012 Football Club Competition.

For seven weeks, 64 clubs from all over the UK competed to get the most votes on our Facebook page. Over 1,000 votes were cast, making it our most successful online competition to date!

Finishing on an incredible total of 317 votes, Long Stratton FC came top of the table, winning £200 worth of Mark Harrod training equipment. With 12 teams to cater for, ranging from u10s to Veterans and including 3 female teams, Long Stratton FC are undoubtedly deserving winners.

Cheltenham Town Ladies FC also put in a valiant effort, leading the competition for five weeks until they were beaten by the impressive final push from Long Stratton FC. They took 2nd place with 174 votes. Llandudno Junction FC put in a similarly good performance, finishing in 3rd place with 119 votes. We awarded both clubs 12 training balls and bags for their efforts.

Ultimately, this competition was more about engaging the fans than it was about skill on the pitch. Long Stratton FC have a strong Facebook following, and manager Steve Race knew that using this was the was the key to winning the competition.

‘We actively followed the competition by reposting Mark Harrod’s Facebook posts and constantly asking our followers to Like the Mark Harrod page,’ Steve explained. ‘And if they hadn’t liked it, asking: why not?’

It goes to show that supporting your club online can be a powerful thing. Thank you to everybody who voted, and keep a look out for more chances to win Mark Harrod kit in 2013!
